Honed with a
juvenile delinquent attitude, hyper-child energy and an
irrepressible ability to play all the necessary
instruments Tim Skedden decided after many years of playing in
and sessioning for other groups (Opshop, The
Feelers, Tim Finn, Timmy
Schumacher, Dark Tower) that it was time.
Yes the
time had come for him to establish his own unique brand of
blitzkreg riffing melodious thumpamatic music,
so he set in
motion the gratifying work of creating an ensemble of himself by
himself.
The striking hook
laden first effort “I Really Don’t Know” is at least partly
attributable to being Jason Kerrison‘s
(OPSHOP) first major production
foray.
The project was recorded at
York Street Studios in Auckland, mixed in the UK at Modern World
Records by Clint
Murphy (Manic Street Preachers, G-Unit, 50 Cent, Opshop),
and mastered at Sterling Sound in New York by Ryan Smith (Iron
Maiden, James Taylor, Beyonce, Talking Heads, Jimmy Eat World).
The video clip by Director Ed
Davis is a suitably unsuitable and unapologetic worship of this
concept and encompasses the knockout performances from each and
every character in this one-man ensemble of fun. From the stealthy bass playing
ninja, streetwise explosive guitar playing 1920’s gangster, and
deliciously driving
drummer in full military
fatigues to Tim Skedden himself as himself in a contrasting
simple t-shirt and jeans.
The energy is palpable, the
impending stardom unmistakable. The time for this man and his
music has finally come.
Ladies and gentlemen,
it gives Control Freak Music great pleasure to announce the
arrival of The Unsuitables.
